You understand the POWER of conferring with students during Writer’s Workshop. You are ready to begin. But what goes in your toolkit?

Here are real pictures of what I included in my Writing Conferring Toolkit.

A binder or a place to house all your items. I love a good binder because they are easy to store and look great on a shelf.

.

I organized my binder into two parts. The front pocket of my binder contains authentic student work. As well as teacher work samples stapled packets and/or in a writer’s notebook.

In the middle of the binder, I would utilize a three-ringed pencil pouch to hold my supplies, which include cute pens/pencils for note-taking and sticky notes. I love leaving the students positive feedback or goal setting on a sticky note and placing it directly in their writing.

The key to the second half of my binder is organization! I loved these numbered tabs. I got mine from Staples (no affiliation). My students already have assigned numbers in the classroom. I would use those numbers to organize my conferring notes.

.

Then under each tab, I had several copies of note-taking sheets. These helped to keep track of student progress and goals for their writing.

That’s it! I hope this helped organize your Writing Conferring Toolkit. Good luck and have fun conferring!
